Hello everyone,

Does anyone know an accessible program to capture streaming audio and record it into mp3?

I use a program called Soundtap for this. I believe there is also a program called Total Recorder which does much the same thing. Just google either of them to work out which one suits you.

Soundtap? Never heard of that one. Total Recorder works well, but isn't free. I believe the site is highcriteria.com, but you can find it easily enough by googling as indicated by the previous post.
CDEX is free, and can record streaming audio if you have a stereo mix option on your soundcard, but it will also record any other sounds your soundcard makes such as jaws, msn, etc. With total recorder, you can specify which software you want it to record the sound from.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had forgotten about Total Recorder. Going to check the others out today.

Total Recorder also allows you to schedule the software to start recording at a preset time. Very handy feature for capturing certain programs that only stream live.

There's a nice little program called StepVoice Recorder that allows you to record directly from your sound card as well as from a mic or line-in jack. It also lets you set the kbps of the mp3s, thereby letting you set the sound quality and size of the files. The newer version isn't free but the older one is.

If you want the older one, be sure you check before downloading. Otherwise, you'll get a demo of the new one.
